We decided to film within Sidmouth because of the sights it offered. The sea was the main attraction as it would emphasize how lonely our protagonist is due to contrasting with the vastness of the sea. We chose to film at night at this would mean that the town was less populated which would enable us to record without interruption and without unwanted diegetic sound. In addition, filming at night would also help to show the despair Chris feels due to his illness.
We then chose to film the second half of our opening sequence at Dottie's house in Wiggaton. Despite being difficult to reach, the seclusion of the building meant we would not have the sound of cars constantly driving past as we did on the sea front and the setting would also then help to reflect our protagonist's persona of distancing himself from others. The bedroom which we filming in was very plain which meant that we didn't have to remove objects to make the room look as if it belonged to our character. However, throughout the rest of the house their were items that were childish which we left because it helped to show how young the mind of our main character was.
