Preliminary Task

The location that we chose was at my house as the front door was opposite the stairs which leads to the bathroom. This ensured that our piece would be fluent whilst also enabling us to avoid filming unnecessary travelling shots. Furthermore, the layout of my bathroom enabled us to get both Jeanne, our actor playing the Wife, and Dottie, playing the Mistress, in the shot together so the emotion on both of their faces could be seen by the audience.

Script:
(*Action represented by asterisks*)
LOCATION: INSIDE, MY HOUSE

WIFE: *Enters from front door, turns on light, removes shoes and jacket, hears sound, slowly walks up stairs portraying emotion proving she is fearful of an intruder, sees underwear*

MISTRESS: *Humming in the background, switches on shower*

WIFE: *Approaches bathroom door, puts ear to door*

MISTRESS: *Humming gets louder*

WIFE: *Enters bathroom* Who the hell are you?

MISTRESS: *Grabs towel, looks up shyly*

WIFE: What are you doing here? You're sleeping with Derek aren't you? You're sleeping with him. You know we've got kids together, don't you?

MISTRESS: *Smirking*

WIFE: Where is he? Tell me where he is, now! *Catches breath*

MISTRESS: Don't you know? He's leaving you

WIFE: *Slumps down to sit, runs hand through hair, sighs*

  1. A creative and interesting preliminary task with a clear narrative and some sense of characterisation and setting. The variety of camera angles is effective, as is the sense of movement created by the POV shots coming up the stairs. The match on action is strong and there is some use of shot reverse shot. The task demonstrates a good understanding of camera work and the basic rules. Well done!
